Genk 1 Everton 1: Wayne Rooney bags his second goal in two friendlies – with Toffees’ fellow new striker Sandro Ramirez teeing him up
Ronald Koeman's men are made to work hard for their draw in Belgium as £30m summer buy Jordan Pickford shines in goal
WAYNE ROONEY bagged his second goal in two friendlies since rejoining Everton - as £30million debutant keeper Jordan Pickford shone.
Rooney slipped home a cross from fellow new striker Sandro Ramirez just before the break.
But Genk levelled 10 minutes after the interval when Ally Samatta punished a half-clearance from Toffees' right-back Cuco Martina.
Former Sunderland stopper Pickford made three useful saves.
But the second half faded amid a host of changes from Toffees' chief Ronald Koeman.
Nonetheless, Pickford's replacement Maarten Stekelenburg brilliantly tipped Samatta's diving header onto the bar.
Everton's warm-up games are now over as they host Slovakian side Ruzomberok in the Europa League on Thursday.
And on his showings so far Rooney must be a strong contender to start, less than three weeks after rejoining from Manchester United.
EVERTON: Pickford, Holgate, Keane, Williams, Baines, Gueye, Schneiderlin, Klaassen, Dowell, Sandro, Rooney.
