Manchester United and Chelsea pulled out of Neymar move as it’s revealed deal taking him to PSG will cost £440m

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte priced out of move for Barcelona's Brazilian superstar

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea both pulled out of the race for Neymar after it was revealed the total cost of the deal would be £440million.

The Premier League giants were both interested in bringing the Barcelona star to England.

Reports now claim that the forward has agreed to quit the Nou Camp and accepted a mega-money offer to move to join Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the Daily Mail claim that the Red Devils and the Blues both ended their interest in the Samba ace after discovering how much PSG were willing to pay to bring the Brazilian to the French capital.

Not only was his release fee £195m, but his wages would have cost whopping £245m over the course of the five-year deal, with Neymar set to pocket around £480,000-a-week after tax.

That huge amount does not seem to have deterred the Parisians as they are now the sole movers in the chase for the 25-year-old.

They are believed to have met the release clause in his contract, although they are still denying it publicly.

PSG contacted L’Equipe on Tuesday to say they are not willing to star in another episode of the “Neymar show” following claims made by Brazilian sports channel Esporte Interativo.

They also indicated that the asking price is too much for them.

The latest drama around Neymar emerged on Monday when Barcelona newspaper Sport broke the news that he was “unhappy” at the club due to being in the shadow of Lionel Messi.

Barca’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez was asked during the new manager Ernesto Valverde's first press conference whether he could envisage the club without the Samba ace, replying: “That will not happen.”

That seemed to suggest that he was saying no-one would pay for him instead of him issuing a firm hands-off.

It is reported that some important figures at Barca are growing fed up of the constant stream of stories surrounding Neymar’s future and would sanction his sale if the clause is met.

PSG’s briefing also indicated that only the buy-out figure is stopping them from completing the deal.
