LUKE SHAW will be given a chance to prove himself as Manchester United's first-choice left-back.

The England international has had a torrid time under The Special One at Old Trafford since his £27million move in 2014.

But The Times are reporting that Shaw's determination to recover from his ankle ligament injury has impressed Jose Mourinho.

And now the former Chelsea boss is ready to give Shaw, 22, another chance to show he is worth keeping.

Shaw has been training hard after picking up his latest injury in April which prematurely ended his campaign.

He is with the United squad at their Los Angeles pre-season camp but is training away from the rest of the squad in a bid to be fit for the first game of the season.

Shaw sat out the last seven games of 2016/17, having missed most of the previous season with a broken leg.

Mourinho looked to be on the 21-year-old’s back since his arrival at Old Trafford last season.

He famously called the former Southampton player out after an abject display at Watford.

And was at it again in April when he said: “I cannot compare the way he trains and commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind."

Shaw now looks determined to stake another claim for a first-team place.

Last season he played 19 times in all competitions for United, plus once for England against Germany.
