Romelu Lukaku has a worse goalscoring record against top-six sides than Everton-bound Wayne Rooney
Old Trafford legend Gary Neville admits not being Belgian's biggest fan... and record against top clubs backs up valuation
ROMELU LUKAKU has a worse goalscoring record against the Premier League's top six sides than Wayne Rooney.
The man whose £75million transfer fee from Everton to Old Trafford has been agreed appears to flop in the games which matter the most.
Gary Neville has accused the Belgian of going "missing" in matches he has seen.
And the stats back up the Red Devils icon's valuation of the striker - against the big six, at least.
Rooney - who is being linked with a move back to Everton - has scored five goals against the top six but in 15 fewer games than the Belgian, who has notched the same tally but in 35 matches.
In fact, Lukaku trails ex-Everton teammate Steven Naismith, new Burnley signing Jon Walters and West Ham forward Diafra Sakho in goals scored against the top six sides from last season since 2014/15.
In 35 games against the clubs where the margins for error are the smallest, Lukaku's record leaves a lot to be desired.
And it is surprising given how spectacular he can be - as his four against Bournemouth last February showed.
No one has played more games against the top six during that period than Lukaku.
Swansea's Gylfi Sigurdsson - who has been linked with a move to Everton - has also taken on the top six on 35 occasions.
But the midfielder has 12 goals in that time.
Leading the list of the most prolific against the big boys is Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.
