The ambitious Midlands club then followed that news up by announcing a season-long loan deal for fellow Porto star Willy Boly.

Neves has signed a five-year deal and will join up with the squad ahead of their pre-season trip to Austria.

He told the club website: "I’m very excited to play at this club.

"It is a very big club and I hope to help the team to win their goals.

"I have always wanted to play in England and we have a good team.

"I think we can do good things this season.

"It is also a good opportunity for me to work again with a trainer (Nuno Espírito Santo) I worked with last year.

"I am very excited to start and to play in front of the fans – I love that."

Neves made his Porto debut aged just 17 in August 2014.

Despite his young age he has extensive experience, and was the youngest player to rack up 50 appearances for Porto and is the club's youngest goalscorer.

He became the youngest Champions League captain ever when he led out the side against Maccabi Tel Aviv at just 18 in October 2015.

The defensive midfielder, who has two senior Portugal caps, scored four goals in 92 games for Porto.
