Sunderland to make Max Gradel bid for second time after Bournemouth rejected an initial loan bid
New Black Cats boss Simon Grayson desperate to link up with Ivorian for a second time after successful spell at Leeds
SUNDERLAND will make a fresh attempt to sign Bournemouth’s Max Gradel after having a loan bid knocked back.
The Black Cats wanted Gradel, 29, on a season-long loan with the option to buy for £2.5million – but the Cherries are after a straight permanent deal.
So Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is now weighing up his next move to land the winger he signed when he was in charge of Leeds in 2010.
Gradel is desperate to leave Bournemouth having fallen down Eddie Howe’s pecking order since penning a new four-year deal last summer.
He has also attracted interest from France and Turkey but would rather stay in England and is keen on linking up with his former boss Grayson again.
The new Black Cats gaffer knows he needs to make the right signings in order to secure a return to the Premier League next season.
Leeds goalkeeper Rob Green is on Grayson’s wishlist after Jordan Pickford was sold to Everton in a £30m deal.
In return, Sunderland have managed to land Toffees defender Brendan Galloway on loan, with teammate Tyias Browning set to follow.
Sunderland transfer news
A new striker is need as well following Jermain Defoe’s decision to join Bournemouth on a free transfer.
Fabio Borini has also made a shock loan switch to AC Milan, leaving the Black Cats short on firepower.
