Manchester United star Wayne Rooney heads out for training session in Liverpool as he edges closer to move back to Everton
The 31-year-old is expected to re-sign for the Toffees by the end of the week having been allowed to leave the Red Devils on a free transfer
WAYNE ROONEY has been spotted walking down a side street in Liverpool as he closes in on a sensational switch back to Everton.
The Manchester United legend was pictured after using a gym in the city centre, as the 31-year-old's move back to Goodison Park edges closer.
Rooney underwent a vigorous training session with United's sports therapist Rod Thornley before he quickly left the scene.
SunSport exclusively revealed last night that the England international will become a Toffees player by the end of the week.
He has been withdrawn from the Red Devils squad that heads to America on Sunday for the start of their pre-season tour in order to complete his return to the blue half of Liverpool.
It is believed he will complete a free transfer to Ronald Koeman's side, but they will have to fork out a whopping £250,000-a-week to cover the wages he would have earned at Old Trafford.
United will only allow him to move on if their all-time top goalscorer doesn't ask to be paid for the remaining two years left on his contract.
Jose Mourinho is happy to let Rooney end his 13-year love affair at the Theatre of Dreams, as he cannot guarantee him game time next season.
Coleen Rooney stocks up for Wayne's move to Everton with a trip to the shops

Meanwhile, Rooney's wife Coleen was spotted out and about stocking up for the move outside Marks & Spencer in Manchester.
The pair have just jetted back from their holidays abroad, where they had some family time with their three children.
Even though he featured 39 times in all competitions last campaign, Rooney, often found himself on the bench - starting just 15 games in the Premier League.
There was to be no fairy tale in either the EFL Cup final or the Europa League final - he failed to get on the pitch against Southampton at Wembley, and was given an injury time cameo in the win over Ajax.
He netted his lowest amount of goals for United last season with just eight strikes, banging in a mere five goals in 26 top-flight matches.
Rooney hasn't broken the 20-goal mark since the 2011-12 season, when he notched up an incredible 34 strikes.

In the last couple of years he has been deployed in a deeper role, and is expected to play as a No10 under Koeman.
He could be joined at Everton by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who has emerged as a £20million target, despite the 30-year-old claiming he wants to stay with the Gunners.
However Toffees scout Carlo Jacomuzzi yesterday told Italian radio: “We’re signing Giroud for £20m. It’s a bargain compared to the £22m Napoli asked us for Duvan Zapata."
It's been a hectic summer already for Everton, they have so far brought in Jordan Pickford from Sunderland, Michael Keane from Burnley, Sandro Ramirez from Malaga and Davy Klaassen from Ajax.
