Arsenal set to offer legend Jens Lehmann goalkeeper coach role as part of huge backroom shake-up
Arsene Wenger has massive respect for German and is ready to extend a welcome to him for the third time
JENS LEHMANN could return to Arsenal for the third time.
The Gunners are reported to be in talks with the German keeper about a job on the coaching staff.
Boss Arsene Wenger is under pressure to freshen up his backroom staff and he is known to have a healthy respect for Lehmann.
The 47-year-old had two spells at Arsenal, firstly between 2003 and 2008 when he was the Invincibles keeper who played in every game of the club’s unbeaten 2003-4 season.
He won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Gunners, and was also involved when Arsenal reached the final of the Champions League in 2006.
He actually holds the Champions League record for the most consecutive clean sheets.
Then in 2011, Lehmann came out of retirement to help the Wenger out of an injury crisis when Wojciech Szczęsny, Łukasz Fabiański and Vito Mannone were all injured.
Gerry Peyton, the Gunners’ goalkeeping coach for the last 14 years, has signed a new deal.

But the club still want to bring back Lehmann.
Wenger thinks his old No 1 could help provide an edge in his backroom staff as the club look to bounce back from a fifth-place finish last season.
Ex-Crystal Palace and Newcastle coach Andy Woodman is set to take charge of Arsenal’s Under-23s, while Gunners have recently added a new strength and conditioning expert in Darren Burgess.
