Sunderland 2 West Ham 2: WATCH HIGHLIGHTS – Fabio Borini snatches late goal to keep alive Black Cats’ hopes of avoiding the drop

FABIO BORINI scored a dramatic late equaliser to earn Sunderland a draw that keeps their hopes of avoiding relegation alive.

David Moyes' side looked to be heading for their fourth successive league defeat when James Collins headed West Ham into a second-half lead - only for sub Borini to save the day in the dying moments.

But the Black Cats are still nine points adrift of safety and know then can ill afford missing out on maximum points in their next three games

Andre Ayew opened the scoring for West Ham before Wahbi Khazri equalised for the Black Cats direct for a corner - only for them to allow Collins to restore the Hammers lead two minutes after the break.

Then Borini came up with the vital equaliser in stoppage  time, and there was still time for Sam Byram to besent off for his second yellow card.

• Wahbi Khazri was given a shock first start since October – and just his fifth in the league this season.
• West Ham captain Mark Noble was beginning a two-match ban but still travelled to Sunderland to support his team-mates.

• Andre Ayew’s opener fifth-minute opener was his sixth of the season for West Ham. James Collins’ second-half winner was his second of the campaign.
• David Moyes was booed by his own fans when he walked into his technical area for the first time in the 20th minute. Some supporters in the South Stand chanted “We want Moyes out”.
• The recalled Khazri scored directly from a corner in the 26th minute. He was the first Prem player to do so since Ben Watson for Watford against Manchester City in January 2016.

• His goal was greeted with chants of “Are you watching David Moyes?” from fans who are upset that Khazri has not been playing.
• West Ham fans on social media were calling for the return of Adrian in goal after Darren Randolph let in Khazri’s goal. In fairness to the keeper, Victor Anichebe was blocking him off.
• Sunderland fans are resigned to going down – they sang “Championship football, it’s on its way back” in the second half.

• The rock-bottom Black Cats have won just one of their last 15 Premier League matches and remain ten points adrift of safety.
• This was West Ham’s first league double over Sunderland since 2008-09 and they are now up to 12th.
• Billy Jones was stretchered off in a neck brace after he banged his head on the ground after going down under a tackle by Arthur Masuaku.
• Sub Fabio Borini slid in front of the Sunderland dugout after his late leveller in an apparent show of dissent towards manager Moyes for not starting him.
