Newcastle set to miss out on Danny Ings with Liverpool insisting he will stay this January
The Reds striker looked to be heading out of Anfield but the Merseyside club want him to stay
NEWCASTLE'S goal-scoring woes look set to continue as target forward Danny Ings is to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool.
The Toon had shown strong interest in signing Ings on loan for the remainder of the season as a short-term option to bolster their goal threat.
It now looks like the club is keen on keeping the striker at Liverpool, rather than shipping him out in January.
Ings is also said to want to remain at Anfield and train as hard as he can to get back into the Reds' starting XI.
He faces stiff competition, with the free-flowing attack of Liverpool who have scored 50 goals in the league so far this season.
Ings is fourth in the pecking order just for the central striker position, ahead of him are Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and youngster Dominic Solanke.

Newcastle are really the ones who need some firepower going forward, scoring just 20 league goals this term.
Dwight Gayle and Joselu are joint top-scorers on just three goals in their 22 games - which may not be enough to keep the Magpies up.
Ings has hardly played for Liverpool in his two-and-a-half seasons at the club - making just eight appearances in that time.
That's mainly due to a string of serious injuries that have kept him on the sidelines, including an ACL problem that required surgery.
