David Moyes’ battle to win over West Ham fans could be even bigger than he imagined as shocking support is revealed

Exclusive SunSport poll shows the Scot has virtually the same backing as doomed Slaven Bilic had the day before Croat was sacked

DAVID Moyes always knew it was going to be hard winning over sceptical West Ham fans – but it looks like he may have a bigger task on his hands than he thought.

An exclusive SunSport Voice of the Fans poll reveals that just five per cent of Hammers supporters are satisfied with the job he’s doing.

To make matters worse, that is just one per cent better than the four per cent who were still backing Slaven Bilic the day before he got the boot three weeks ago.

Moyes’ appointment at the East London stadium was not hugely popular, with fans remembering the dour football he played at Manchester United and doomed spells with Real Sociedad and Everton after that.

They will be hoping he can lead them out of the relegation zone, with the club sitting 18th and having conceded a Premier League high – or low - of 25 goals so far this season.

But there was little to cheer them after the Scot lost his first game in charge 2-0 at Watford.

And some supporters are already claiming he is taking the Hammers in the wrong direction after less than three weeks at the helm.

One fan said on Twitter: "Staggering how David Moyes has already managed to make West Ham worse than they have been all season."

The team were booed off the pitch at Vicarage Road and Moyes himself was quick to lay into his under-fire squad.

He said after:  “Which areas did I expect better? Everything. We gave the ball away, turned it over cheaply and gave away cheap goals.

“There were some players with big reputations who disappointed me.

“The better team won the game — overall I just didn’t think it was good enough. It needs to get much better.”

Next up for West Ham is Leicester at home on Friday night, followed by an away match at his old club Everton .

Moyes will be desperate to get at least one win under his belt as he then faces a trip to Manchester City, a massive London derby against hated rivals Chelsea and then Arsenal at home.

TalkSPORT pundit Joey Barton claimed this week that Moyes could be on thin ice by the New Year with that set of fixtures ahead, and in this case, it would be extremely hard to argue with him.
