The Argentina international is back in the team and back on the score sheet after recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident in Holland.

Not only does the goal mark a personal record for the striker, but also reaches a club milestone.

Aguero's strike was Manchester City's 700th goal at home in the Premier League, David White scored the first vs QPR in August, 1992.

The striker looked to top Brook's record, that has stood since 1938, but was stopped by Burnley's Nick Pope on two occasions within seven minutes.

Ex-Manchester City player Brook played 453 games for the club from 1928 to 1940 and set a record that has stood for 79 years until Aguero beat his from 261 matches in six years at The Ethiad.

The forward kicked off his career at city in style by scoring twice in his debut against Swansea in 2011.

Under Pep Guardiola he has thrived and scored 34 times in all competitions, more than he achieved in either season under the two previous managers.

The Manchester City twitter feed was awash with celebrations to mark the milestone, but twitter users called the club cheats
