He said: "We are aware of the situation. We will look at it and review. We are not sure of his situation, so we would need to follow that up.

“We have good defensive cover at the moment and players who can cover in different positions but you always have to make sure that you are aware where the cover might come from if you have one or two injuries."

The former Arsenal man alluded to the fact he will be keeping a close eye on the Milan derby on Sunday.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport.“I will definitely watch the Milan derby. Italian football has always fascinated me. These are the games you always want to play. I expect a high level and a draw."

"I follow Serie A, there are other big teams like Napoli, Roma, Milan and Juve. It’s a competitive championship.

“I had the opportunity to sign up with several clubs in Turkey and England, plus interest in Portugal, France and Italy.

"But I love to compete at the highest levels, I know my value. To get back to the pitch I’m looking for an ambitious team. It’s not a question of money.”

Sagna has been a free agent since his contract with Manchester City expired in June, and will be looking for regular first team football again.
