Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez ordered to stop complaining about lack of funds by the club’s hierarchy

Toon owner Mike Ashley was the driving force behind the message after growing tired of the Spaniard's continuous digs at the club

Rafa Benitez has been told to stop moaning about the club's transfer troubles following a boardroom meeting at Newcastle.

Toon Owner Mike Ashley is believed to be fed up with the manager's continuous digs at the club.

Benitez has caused a stir after speaking out about the lack of funds that he has received for transfers this summer.

The Spanish manager claimed that the club promised a lot more than they have provided in terms of available finances.

However, Ashley said in an interview that the 57-year-old knew exactly how much he would receive.

Despite an encouraging 3-0 weekend win against West Ham, the boss is keen to introduce some new faces to the club before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The manager has also suggested that due to a lack of backing from owner Ashley, he may be forced to resign from his position.

If Benitez does throw in the towel at St James Park, then his contract claims that he has to pay back a year's salary in compensation - which is £5m.

Should Ashley chose to sack the Spaniard, then he would have to pay the fee.

The former Napoli chief continues to mull over the club's financial restraints, but Ashley remains relucant to break the bank this summer.

Benitez knows the strength of the Premier League, but ultimately the decision lies in the hands of Ashley.

He has already signed Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid, Joselu form Stoke, Christian Atsu from Chelsea, Floriaan Lejeune from SD Eibnar and Jacon Murphy from Norwich this summer - but it's still not enough in the critical eyes of Benitez.
