Davinson Sanchez was Ajax Player of the Year last season

Sanchez has signed a six-year deal, keeping him at White Hart Lane until 2023.

Who is Davinson Sanchez?

His full name is Davinson Sanchez Mina and was born in Caloto, Colombia, in 1996.

The 21-year-old played youth football in America de Cali's academy but he moved with his parents and joined Atletico Nacional.

During his time at the latter, he was coached by current Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio.

Where has the defender played?

The defender made his debut for Atletico Nacional in 2013 and he went on to play the entirety of the match in their 1-0 defeat to Boyaca Chico.

Last year, in March, he scored his first goal for the club in a 3-0 win over Sporting Cristal and his strong form led to interest from Barcelona, Flamengo and Ajax.

But Sanchez turned down the Catalan giants as he was against the idea of playing for Barcelona B.

In June last year he signed a five-year deal with Ajax in a move worth just £4.5million.

Last season he helped the Dutch side to a second-placed finish in the Europa League, after losing to Manchester United in the final, before winning Player of the Year.

While Ajax's attacking players appeared overawed by the occasion, Davinson Sanchez displayed a maturity beyond his years and was one of the best players in the 2-0 defeat.

What is his international career?

Sanchez has played for Colombia at youth level and has gone on to represent the first team.

In 2013 he starred for the Under-17s and the following year he played for the Under-20s.

Last year he played for Colombia's Olympic squad and also got called up to the first team.
