Tottenham Hotspur announce new three-year deal for 18-year-old winger Marcus Edwards

The England Under-19's star has re-signed for Spurs, despite only featuring once for the first-team

TOTTENHAM ace Marcus Edwards signs a new deal with Mauricio Pochettino's side, which will keep him with the North London outfit until 2020.

The 18-year-old shot to prominence following a string of impressive displays for the England U19 squad.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that the teenage prodigy reminds him of a young Lionel Messi.

"The qualities...it's only looks, his body and the way that he plays, but remember a little bit the beginning of Messi," the boss said before Edwards made his first-team debut in as a substitute in a 5-0 win over Gillingham in September.

Edwards has not featured for the North London club since, but his opportunities could improve now that his foreseeable future is committed to the club.

The youngster is widely regarded as one the best young players in the country, which resulted in interest from a number of clubs.

The English starlet has rejected interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

Edwards was a pivotal element to the England Under-19's triumphant European Championship win in Georgia.

Due to international commitments, Edwards has been unable to go on Tottenham's pre-season tour of the USA.

He is frequently used a late substitution to give the young Lions an extra attacking element in the latter stages.

An ankle injury slowed the progress of his season last year, but he appears to now be fully recovered.
