However, the pair will still get some game time before the start of the 2017-18 Premier League season.

There are just two remaining pre-season games on the calendar, with the game on Sunday against Valarenga, and finally Italian team Sampdoria on August 2.

Herrera picked up an injury in United's win over Real Madrid last Sunday, while Mata has been out since he injured his ankle against MLS side Real Salt Lake last week.

United remain unbeaten in pre-season, as new signings Victor Lindelof and £78 million man Romelu Lukaku integrate themselves into the side.

Boss Jose Mourinho also confirmed that Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, and Marcos Rojo who have all picked up injuries in pre-season will not make the first game of the season.

United have been relatively modest in their amount of signings this summer, but the two Mourinho has signed; Lukaku and Lindelof, have eclipsed over £100 million.

Compared to their Manchester counterparts whose spending has reached £200m, that total seems somewhat modest.

Jose will be hoping his squad can mount a title challenge this season. after a disappointing campaign last year.

The Portuguese will still be hoping to bring in a few more players in the form of Gareth Bale before the window shuts next month.
