Manchester United transfer news: Cameron Borthwick-Jackson targeted by Ajax as Jose Mourinho prepares to flog defender
Left-back was believed to have a bright future at Old Trafford but his development stalled and he is on the market
MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to sell Cameron Borthwick-Jackson with Ajax circling, according to reports.
The left-back was tipped for a bright future at Old Trafford after breaking into the first team under Louis van Gaal.
But he was sent to Wolves on loan last season and struggled to impress, with united now looking for a permanent exit.
The Daily Mail claims Ajax are closely monitoring the situation after selling promising defender Jairo Riedewald to Crystal Palace.
Borthwick-Jackson, 20, would fit with the Dutch club's ethos and domestic rivals Heerenveen and PEC Zwolle are also interested.
If the youngster wants to stay in England, Championship duo Reading and Leeds are both considering a move.
Manchester-born Borthwick-Jackson played just seven games last season as he fell short of expectations at Wolves.
And his lack of action may put off potential buyers - especially Ajax, who will be playing in Europe - forcing United to drive down the price.
He first joined the Red Devils in 2003 and spent 12 years in the academy before his breakthrough.
Jose Mourinho has integrated several youngsters into his squad after concerns were raised about what his appointment would mean for potential stars.
Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard have both thrived under the Portuguese tactician, while Anthony Martial has looked red-hot in pre-season.
But the route to the first team looks more difficult than under LVG, with Mourinho needing experienced campaigners to compete in the Champions League next season.
