Neville: Why I feel sorry for Man United striker, he could still score 25 goals
The former Man United defender admits he feels sorry for Romelu Lukaku after a tough spell
Phil Neville has admitted that he feels sorry for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgium international moved to the Red Devils in a £75m deal from Everton in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Lukaku opted to make the switch to Manchester United ahead of a potential return to defending champions Chelsea.
The 24-year-old hit the ground running with 10 goals in nine games in all competitions to silence his critics.
However, Lukaku has only found the net three times in his last 14 outings to raise questions about the Belgian forward.
The former Anderlecht man failed to find the net against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham this term to prompt the accusation that Lukaku is nothing more than a flat-track bully.
But ex-Manchester United defender Neville believes Lukaku has been subjected to some unfair criticism this season.
“I feel sorry for him,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He could score 20 to 25 goals and people could say he is not good enough for Man United. All people do is pick fault.
“Does he get the best service at times?”
Lukaku netted 25 goals in 36 games in the Premier League last term to finish behind Tottenham star Harry Kane in the goal-scoring charts.
Liverpool FC signing Mohamed Salah has scored 14 times this season to lead the way in the Premier League’s goal-scoring charts.
