Jose Mourinho told Man United summer signing needs Paul Pogba
Danny Higginbotham believes Paul Pogba's absence has contributed to Romelu Lukaku's poor form for Manchester United
Romelu Lukaku needs Manchester United club record signing Paul Pogba to bring out the best in the striker, Danny Higginhotham has claimed
.
The Red Devils signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton in the summer transfer window after the centre-forward opted to move to Manchester United ahead of Chelsea.
The 24-year-old made a brilliant start to the season after he scored seven times in his opening seven Premier League games of the 2017-18 season.
Lukaku appeared particularly devastating alongside Pogba as Manchester United eased to 4-0 victories over West Ham and Swansea City in their first two games of the campaign.
However, the France midfielder suffered a hamstring problem during a 3-0 victory over Anderlecht to sideline the club-record signing for a number of months.
Lukaku’s goals have since dried up and the Belgian forward hasn’t found the back of the net in his last five games in all competitions.
Former Manchester United defender Higginbotham highligted Pogba’s absence as a contributory factor to Lukaku’s disappointing form.
“Pogba brought the best out of Lukaku and Lukaku brought the best out of Pogba,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports.
“Pogba was scoring goals from outside the area. That was Lukaku stretching the game.”
Manchester United signed Lukaku in the summer transfer window after he scored 25 goals in 36 games in all competitions last term.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to defending champions Chelsea last weekend as Lukaku failed to score against his former club.
