Robbie Savage reacts to Marcus Rashford’s display in Man United’s 2-0 win over Benfica

The BT Sport pundit lavishes praise on Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford

Robbie Savage heaped praise on Marcus Rashford after the England striker helped Manchester United to secure a 2-0 win over Benfica.

The England international started on the bench after Jose Mourinho preferred to start with Anthony Martial on the left wing.

The 21-year-old lasted 75 minutes before Mourinho turned to Manchester United youth product Rashford.

Rashford helped Manchester United to move to the brink of sealing their place in the Champions League knockout phase thanks to late penalty.

The 19-year-old was brought down inside the area following a brilliant run from the Red Devils striker.

After much discussion, Netherlands defender Daley Blind ultimately dispatched the spot-kick to make it 2-0 following Mile Svilar’s own goal.

Former Leicester City midfielder Savage was quick to heap praise on the England forward for his contribution to Manchester United’s comfortable win.

“It was great footwork. He was driving into the box. It’s a definite penalty,” Savage told BT Sport.

Savage added: “He is so direct.”

Rashford has scored two goals and has made three assists in 10 Premier League games this season.

The Red Devils will make the trip to defending Premier League champions Chelsea in their next fixture at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since their final success under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
