West Ham will travel to Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round.

The Hammers were knocked out of the competition at this stage last season by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, with the Sky Blues putting five past them.

The east Londoners have three FA Cups in their trophy cabinet, have not lifted the famous cup since 1980 when, as a then division two side, they beat current holders Arsenal.

Whether manager David Moyes, who took the reins following the sacking of Slaven Bilic in east London, will be keen for a cup run given their current problems in the Premier League is hard to call.

It may well cause an unnecessary distraction in the fight against relegation, or could also spark some hope back into London Stadium.

The third round tie, played in the first week of January, will come at a tough time after their Premier League clash with Tottenham was moved from New Year’s Eve to January 4, just two days before the FA Cup fixtures are scheduled to begin.
