Valencia have announced the signing of French midfielder Francis Coquelin on a four-and-a-half year deal from Arsenal.

The Spanish side are believed to have paid a fee of £12million for the 26-year-old, and have included a release clause of €80million in his contract.

The midfielder joined from French side Laval in 2008 and went on to make 160 appearances for the Gunners, winning two FA Cups and, in his early years, an FA Youth Cup.

The former France U21 international was sent to Charlton on loan in 2014 but was recalled after just over a month and thrown straight into first team action.

Coquelin will be presented to the media on Thursday afternoon and could be in line to make his debut against Deportivo in La Liga on Saturday night where a win, and the right results elsewhere, could see Marcelino Toral’s side rise above Atletico Madrid into second.

Arsenal have thanked Coquelin for contribution to the club and wished him well at his new club.
