Harry Kane is the world's "most complete" striker and Cristiano Ronaldo's natural successor, according to former Tottenham player and coach Steffen Freund.

Kane has scored 45 goals in 40 games in 2017, a record bettered only by Lionel Messi in Europe's top five leagues, prompting links with Real Madrid.

Tottenham face the Liga giants in the Champions League on Wednesday and Kane is back in the squad after overcoming a hamstring injury.

Freund underlined Kane's loyalty to Spurs but feels the striker's head could be turned in the pursuit of success elsewhere.

"Kane can be Cristiano Ronaldo's successor," Freund told Sport Bild. "He has had an incredible development and gets better every season.

"Passing, heading, shooting technique, dribbling, finishing, while Harry is not perfect, in any of these areas, he can do something exceptional and has no weaknesses at all. That makes him the most complete striker in the world.

"He carries Tottenham with his heart. But Harry is a thoroughbred professional and always wants the maximum success."
