Danny Rose will be a surprise name among the Tottenham substitutes on Wednesday after being deemed fit enough to face Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The left-back has been sidelined since the end of January and only recently returned to first-team training, along with fellow long-term absentee Erik Lamela.

Ben Davies remains sidelined through illness, with Jan Vertonghen deputising in Saturday's 1-0 win over Bournemouth, but Mousa Dembele has also travelled after almost a month out and the suspended Dele Alli has joined the travelling group.

"I think Danny Rose will be on the bench," Pochettino told the club's official website. "Maybe he is not fit to play from the beginning but to help the team.

"Mousa Dembele is here and Dele wanted to come to stay with the team and we have some injured players like Lamela still recovering and [Victor] Wanyama at the training ground - they prefer to stay there.

"We invite them to come and stay with the group because I think it is an important game and to have the possibility to stay all together.

"It is very good for the team. It is good for him after nearly ten months away. Always it is important for the player to start to feel again that he can be involved and be part of the team."

Rose has not featured for Spurs since injuring his knee in late January, with his future at Tottenham a doubt after heavily criticising the club's wage structure and transfer plans during the summer.
