Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham do not enforce a style of play on the academy as each group can have its own philosophy to boost development.

The Argentine has achieved great success with Spurs, moulding the young team into the most consistent in Premier League over the previous two seasons.

Tottenham scored the most goals and conceded the least of any top-flight team as Pochettino guided the club to a third- and then second-place finish.

Despite these achievements, Pochettino does not insist upon a singular philosophy running throughout the club, much like Barcelona's La Masia academy and the successful first-team squad.

"I believe that in the training process we must emphasise the potential of the players," he told L'Equipe. "We cannot put them in a system. Just because the first team plays in one way, would it be necessary to repeat the same moves with kids of fourteen or fifteen? No.

"I give young footballers the possibility to have a maximum of information, to be able to work according to different philosophies. We want to train complete players who can adapt to any situation.

"On the other hand, it’s not the same thing when one speaks about values: to be professional, disciplined, to have a feeling of belonging. Many characteristics form the identity of a club, which I want to be taught.

"But if we talk about the technical profile, I respect those who want to put this in place, but it is not my idea."
