Romelu Lukaku will miss Belgium's 2018 World Cup qualifier in Belarus on Saturday, but could be back in action before Manchester United's crunch test against Liverpool.

Lukaku was an injury doubt for United's final Premier League match before the international break against Crystal Palace, but played and scored in the 4-0 Old Trafford victory.

The 24-year-old did not travel to Sarajevo with Belgium, who have already qualified for next year's finals in Russia, after failing to train this week because of the ankle injury.

However, the Belgian FA confirmed that the United forward could play in next week's final Group H game at home to Cyprus on Tuesday.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that the £75million summer signing is fully fit as United resume their League campaign against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool at Anfield on October 14.

United sit level of points with leaders Manchester City after seven games, with Lukaku's seven goals so far this season leaving him as the early frontrunner for the Golden Boot.
