Jack Wilshere has revealed how a change to Arsenal’s formation has helped him revive his Gunners career and compared the shift to that of the Invincibles squad

The midfielder said he is enjoying his flexible role in the team which sees him switching positions on the pitch.

Wilshere claims a 3-4-3 formation allows Arsenal to win the ball further up the pitch, like the famous unbeatable team of 2003/04 who won 26 and drew 12 of their 38 league games..

“The boss decided to change the shape last year, it worked well and he’s stuck with it,” he told the club's official website.

“We’ve improved defensively as a team. In that transition when we lose the ball, we want to win it back quickly like the best Arsenal teams over the years.

“The Invincibles were great at it because they’d lose the ball but then win it higher up and we’d be in a dangerous position. That’s probably the best change [I have seen].”

Wilshere has endured a career marred with injuries, including a damaged calf two seasons ago seeing him miss eight months of action.

He spent the last season on loan at Bournemouth, a spell cut short by a broken leg, and is now being reintroduced to the first-team Gunners squad.

The 25-year-old has made three appearances this season, including playing the full 90 minutes against BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

His future at Arsenal is still up in the air with no talks of renewing his contact, which runs out next summer, and both Arsene Wenger and England head coach Gareth Southgate raised concerns over his fitness levels.
