Davinson Sanchez to join Tottenham as Spurs agree £40m transfer with Ajax

Tottenham are set to complete their first signing of the summer after announcing an agreement with Ajax for defender Davinson Sanchez.

Spurs confirmed the deal for the 21-year-old Colombian - subject to a medical and a work permit - in a move that could eventually rise to £40m, which would comfortably make Sanchez Tottenham's club-record signing.

Sanchez joined Ajax in 2016 and went on to cement his spot at the heart of the club's defence - featuring in their Europa League final, which the Dutch side lost 2-0 to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old centre-back's impending arrival places into doubt the future of Kevin Wimmer, who has been linked with a move to Southampton as well as number of Bundesliga sides this summer.

Sanchez will be the fourth ex-Ajax player in the current Tottenham squad following on from Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
