The knee injury Wilfried Zaha suffered against Huddersfield on Saturday is worse than was first thought and will keep him out of the Crystal Palace team for four weeks.

The winger played the full 90 minutes of the 3-0 defeat but left Selhurst Park with a brace on his right knee as a precaution.

Zaha, 24, misses Saturday’s trip to Liverpool, a League Cup tie at home to Ipswich next Tuesday and the home game against Swansea on August 26, plus the Ivory Coast’s home and away World Cup qualifiers against Gabon next month.

Speaking during pre-season, Palace boss Frank de Boer called for more protestion for Zaha.

The Ducthman said: "If you want to sell the Premier League and the beauty of the game, the beauty of the game is not those kind of challenges.

"He's one of the exciting players of the Premier League. I don't want to think that he's out for a couple of weeks or months."
