Jeremie Boga has signed a new three-year contract at Chelsea and will now join Birmingham on loan.

Boga, who will spend the rest of the season at St Andrews, had previously been on loan at French club Stade Rennais and in La Liga with Granada.

The 20-year-old was a surprise debutant on the opening day of the Premier League season – though he was withdrawn early in the first half after captain Gary Cahill’s sending off – and had enjoyed an impressive run of form during pre-season.

Midfielder Boga, who will wear the No.10 shirt at the Championship side, is Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp’s third loan signing from the capital this summer, with Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall having arrived from Arsenal last week.

Jenkinson however suffered a disastrous debut as he dislocated his shoulder 32 minutes into the match following a heavy fall. The 25-year-old full-back is expected to be out for several months.
