Arsene Wenger has hailed Olivier Giroud for his ‘remarkable achievement’ after the Frenchman scored his 100th Arsenal goal against BATE Borisov on Thursday.

Having won their opening Europa League game against Cologne, the Gunners put their stamp on Group H with a 4-2 win in Belarus.

With Wenger’s side 3-1 up they were handed a remarkably soft penalty for a nudge on Rob Holding at a corner. Nonetheless, Giroud stepped up to bag his 100th strike in 238 games – the same amount of appearances it took Robin van Persie to reach the landmark at the club.

Speaking after the game, Wenger said: "I just congratulated him for his remarkable achievement. He is in good company, when you look at the number of goals he's scored.

"It's a remarkable achievement. I congratulated him for that remarkable achievement."

Giroud joins the likes of Thierry Henry and Denis Bergkamp in Arsenal’s 100-club, as well as Theo Walcott who bagged a brace on Thursday evening.
