Watford captain Troy Deeney had a pop at ‘good pal’ Hector Bellerin after Arsenal were stunned at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The Gunners squandered a one-goal lead to succumb to a 2-1 defeat to the Hornets, with striker Deeney and midfielder Tom Cleverly scoring two late goals.

Per Mertesacker’s header had given Arsenal the lead at the break, but the hosts were given the opportunity to draw themselves level after Bellerin was adjudged to have fouled Richarlison.

Replay suggested that the Brazilian went down easily following minimal contact from Bellerin, but Deeney – who scored the resulting penalty – believes that the Spaniard’s long hair might have been the problem.

“Yeah [it was a penalty], because his long hair is in the way, he can’t see what he’s doing,” the Watford captain told BT Sport.

“I know Hector, he’s a good pal of mine, but that’s a penalty. I’m sure if that was the other way around he would be screaming for a penalty.”
