Mesut Ozil signs new Arsenal contract worth up to £350,000-a-week as he becomes highest-paid player in club's history

Arsenal have announced that Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract that it is understood will make him the highest paid player in the club’s history.

The German playmaker has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Emirates that is worth up to £350,000-a-week, by some distance the most Arsenal have ever paid a player.

Ozil has more than doubled the £150,000-a-week he earned in his previous deal, signed when he arrived from Real Madrid for £42.5million in the summer of 2013, and could now be an Arsenal player until he is 32.

Arsene Wenger had long expressed his optimism that Ozil would sign an extension, more so than Alexis Sanchez, who moved to Manchester United in January with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way.

Ozil has regularly spoken of his happiness at Arsenal and with life in London, which has been reflected in a consistent run of performances over recent months.
