Harry Kane delivered a Champions League masterclass by hitting a hat-trick and leading Tottenham to a 3-0 demolition of Apoel Nicosia.

There are few superlatives left to describe Kane's relentless goalscoring form but the striker broke new ground in Cyprus with his first treble in Europe's premier competition.

A cool first-half finish set Spurs on their way before two in five minutes after the interval rounded off another stellar night for Kane, who trundled off to a standing ovation with 15 minutes left.

His ninth club hat-trick also puts Tottenham in a commanding position to qualify from Group H after Borussia Dortmund's loss at home to Real Madrid leaves the German side six points adrift.

Pochettino has limited midfield options to choose from in Cyprus with his Tottenham squad depleted through injury and suspension.

He already knew that Dele Alli would be suspended for their group match following the four-match European ban he received last season, while Victor Wanyama has not featured since their defeat to Chelsea in August.

With Erik Lamela sidelined for nearly a year, Spurs are now without Mousa Dembele (foot) and Christian Eriksen, with the Danish star having been struck down with a bug the night before the squad travelled.

Starting line-ups

APOEL XI: Waterman; Vouros, Rueda, Carlao, Lago; Morais, Vinicius, Sallai; Zahid, Aloneftis, De Camargo

Subs: Gudino, Alexandrou, Merkis, Farais, Makris, Pote, Antoniou

Spurs XI: Lloris (C), Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies, Aurier, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Son, Kane

Do they have what it takes?

Frank Lampard thinks Tottenham are close to being a side ready for silverware, however, they must find the mentality to compete on all fronts.
