Fantasy football Week 9: Start or sit C.J. Anderson on Sunday?

Anderson is Denver’s workhorse in the backfield, but his fantasy outlook remains low with the terrible Broncos offense.

The Denver Broncos need their running game to be strong with the passing offense in shambles. C.J. Anderson has emerged as the lead back in Denver. He ran the ball well in Week 8, netting 78 yards on 15 carries in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Anderson also caught one pass for seven yards. Monday night was Anderson’s first game since Week 4 with 85 total yards or more.

Denver’s running committee will have a hard go against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9. The Eagles’ rushing defense is stellar holding opposing running backs under four yards per carry. The have the third-best run defense in the league through the first half of the season.

Fantasy impact: Anderson does not get enough chances to run the ball and he is the top running back in Denver. The Broncos’ quarterback play has caused so many problems they often have to abandon the run early and play catch up with the pass. Anderson could be much better in fantasy otherwise. He runs well, though he has not broken off many big runs and rarely scores. The Broncos want to lean on the run while the quarterback situation hashes itself out, but that will be a tall order for this running committee against Philadelphia.

Recommendation: Sit
