Liverpool are set to end their interest in Roma goalkeeper Alisson.

The Reds have been monitoring the progress of the Brazilian stopper in recent months and have been tipped to make a summer move, reports the Liverpool Echo.

But with Loris Karius having impressed in recent weeks and Roma having placed a huge price tag on Alisson's head, Jurgen Klopp's interest has cooled.

Roma rate the 25-year-old at around the £70million mark and the Reds believe agreeing a deal would be problematic because the Serie A outfit still regret setting such a low price for Mohamed Salah last summer.

The Egypt international moved to Anfield for an initial fee of £36.9m and his value has since rocketed having netted 30 goals in just 36 matches.

When Klopp opted to drop Simon Mignolet last month and give Karius an extended run in the side, he challenged the German to prove that Liverpool didn’t need to spend big on a new No 1.

“My favourite solution, always, is that we do it with our boys,” Klopp said.

“They step up, they deliver, they improve. The problem they have is that everyone is watching them.”

Klopp has been delighted by Karius’ response since with the former Mainz man keeping three clean sheets in his past four matches. His confidence is growing and the manager believes he could be the long-term solution between the posts.

If Karius maintains his current standards until May then Liverpool are likely to be in the market for someone to compete with him rather than replace him.

Unless he forces his way back ahead of Karius in the pecking order, Mignolet is set to move on after five years at Anfield.

The Belgium international is 30 next month and won’t want to stick around as back-up beyond the end of the current season.
