Alexis Sanchez is set to officially be announced as a Manchester United player on Monday.

The Chilean is set to undergo a medical after United and Arsenal agreed on a sensational swap deal that will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the opposite direction.

Both Sanchez and Mkhitaryan are non-EU players and must have their work permits ratified by their new clubs.

And even then Sanchez won't train with his new teammates until Tuesday, reports the Manchester Evening News.

United manager Jose Mourinho has given his players two days off following their win over Burnley on Saturday, so Sanchez could train alone on Monday.

Mourinho's fixed days off policy endeared him to his players after his predecessors all reserved the right to haul United players in for training had they suffered a defeat.

Mourinho specified an unalterable day off regardless of the most recent result and his rationale is that United players are bound to take defeat badly and summoning them in for an unscheduled training session could exacerbate the players' domestic climate.

David de Gea, Ander Herrera, Victor Lindelof, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are among the players who appear to have jetted abroad for an extended weekend break.

The United squad is due back in at Carrington on Tuesday to prepare for their Friday night FA Cup fourth round tie at Yeovil, where Sanchez could make his debut.

Mourinho said United were 'so close' to signing Sanchez. "I expect soon or never," Mourinho said after United beat Burnley on Saturday. "I think is so close, so close, so close that if it doesn't happen it's not going to happen so I am positive.

"I know my people is doing eveything they can, the owners with the green light, Mr Woodward working hard with Matt Judge and everybody is giving everything they can and I think they are going to be successful."

Sanchez is in line to make his league bow back in north London against Tottenham at Wembley on January 31 and his home United debut is likely to be against Huddersfield on February 3.
