Alexis Sanchez said goodbye to his Arsenal team mates after a dramatic late development in his transfer saga.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger named Sanchez as the 19th man in Arsenal's squad to face Crystal Palace with players believing he might have been on the bench.

But that may have prompted Manchester United to speed up and get the deal done as Henrik Mkhitaryan is also set to join Arsenal after saying his goodbyes after training.

Mirror Sport understands that Sanchez got a call and said goodbye to his team mates just before 11pm and left the team hotel.

It points to the deal finally going through this weekend after the development in the saga.

It is understood Arsenal and United are ready to do two separate deals to resolve the Sanchez and Mkhitaryan transfer saga.

The clubs have been locked in negotiations for days as a straight swap has proved increasingly difficult to agree because of different valuations and contracts.

That has been at the centre of the hold-up as player-plus-cash deals are notoriously tricky and very rare in English football so they are looking at two different transactions.

Arsenal hope the deal will go through in the next few days and they will then press ahead with their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the German club wanting Olivier Giroud as part of the deal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal forward Danny Welleck is set to miss Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace after suffering a minor muscle injury in training.
