Wayne Rooney has been given the green light to build a five-a-side pitch in the grounds of his new £20million mansion.

The Everton striker is replacing an existing horse riding arena with an artificial surface that will even include dugouts and seating.

Rooney's new pad will also have a cinema, swimming pool and two fishing lakes.

He is expected to move into the property along with his wife Coleen and sons Kai, Klay and Kit later this year.

The former England frontman’s planning agent told The Sun : “The proposal includes the substitution of the approved menage for a 5-a-side football pitch. The overall size of the pitch is moderately larger than the menage but not to a material extent.

“The internal layout of the stables has changed to facilitate a conversion from stable block to ancillary accommodation. Internally, the building provides a guest annexe with four double bedrooms and shared living/kitchen area.

“It also includes a lounge area and accommodation which serves the use of the football pitch including WC/storage/showers/changing.”

Rooney's development was given the go ahead by East Cheshire Council planners, but the parish council warned: “This development must not have a further impact on the Green Belt; any additional extensions beyond what has already been approved must not result in a reduction of openness across the site.”
