Wayne Rooney's eco-friendly BMW supercar has been put up for sale after he was banned from the roads for drink-driving.

The Everton star is looking for £64,995 to part ways with the metallic ionic silver motor that can reach 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

The 31-year-old was caught drink-driving last September during an infamous night out in Cheshire with his breathalyser showing an alcohol level of nearly three times the legal limit.

In addition to the driving ban, Rooney was ordered to perform 100 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.

He has now sold his car to an approved BMW dealership in Blackpool, which is advertising it on Auto Trader.

The price is around £50,000 less than the price Rooney paid when he took delivery of the i8 in January 2015.

The BMW has 20-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, sat-nav, Harman Kardon speakers and a head-up display.

It is fitted with a 1.5-litre engine and an electric motor which develops a combined 360bhp.

Rooney has been praised for driving a hybrid with a host of less environmentally friendly flash motors available.

"It’s refreshing to see a footballer driving a hybrid," said Auto Trader Editorial Director Erin Baker. "Rather than a Chelsea tractor or gas-guzzling super car, and even more so to see a footballer’s car in a sober colour.

"The trend of more premiership stars plugging-in also reflects the wider UK car market.

"On Auto Trader’s marketplace in December searches for electric vehicles increased by 56% year-on-year – with hybrid vehicles also showing a substantial 50% rise from buyers exploring newer fuel types."
