Manchester United had a new travelling fan on their side in their victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday - club captain Michael Carrick .

The injured midfielder watched on from the away end as United triumphed 1-0 courtesy of an Anthony Martial goal , and Carrick was seen joining in with the away fans' chants as they cheered on Jose Mourinho's men.

Mourinho has confirmed that Carrick - who has been suffering from an irregular heart rhythm since September - is set to take up a first-team coaching role when he retires from football at the end of the season .

And he seemed to be loving every minute of it on Saturday as he was seen watching on from the stands with his son.

In a video tweeted by United's official Twitter account, Carrick is seen standing up and leading the chants of "United!" as Mourinho's men saw out the game against Sean Dyche's battling side, who are now winless in eight games.

Carrick later tweeted: "3 points. My little man made his debut in the away end today. He was all over it. “Please can we come next week Dad?” #AwayDays #Red Army"

United's win was their fourth in a row in all competitions, with Martial finding the net for a third league game in a row.
