Arsenal and Chelsea made the first major deals of transfer deadline day, which saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud all on the move.

Gabon forward Aubameyang’s arrival at Arsenal for a club-record fee from to Borussia Dortmund, which is reported to be in the region of £56million, was confirmed just after 11:15am.

Aubameyang had joined Dortmund in 2013 and will link up with his former team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who moved to Arsenal in the swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez head to Manchester United.

Later on Wednesday, shortly before the transfer window close in Germany, it was announced Batshuayi had completed a loan switch to the Bundesliga side.

That in turn had paved the way for France forward Giroud to be unveiled as a Chelsea player, having headed to Stamford Bridge in an £18m deal.

As the clock ticks down towards the 11pm deadline, there could well be several more Premier League deals completed.

However, Press Association Sport understands Manchester City have withdrawn their interest in Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez.

The Premier League leaders enquired about the Algeria forward with a view to a deadline day move but have been put off by the costs of a potential deal.

It is understood that the Foxes were only prepared to do business if City could put together a deal worth around £95million.

Elsewhere, Tottenham confirmed the signing of Lucas Moura from Paris St Germain.

The Brazilian winger arrived at Spurs’ Enfield training base on Tuesday morning ahead of a medical and a reported £25million switch.

Stoke have been closing in on a deal for midfielder Badou Ndiaye from Galatasaray.

Newcastle are understood to have agreed a loan deal for Leicester striker Islam Slimani, which they hope to finalise.

The Algeria forward joined the Foxes from Sporting Lisbon in August 2016. It has been reported Slimani faces at least two weeks out after suffering a thigh injury in training.

Should that deal go through, then Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is set to head to former club Anderlecht, also on a loan deal until the end of the season.
