Monday’s Toffee Bites: Big Sam should not be Everton’s manager next season

In today’s links: Arsenal embarrass Everton, Lookman has a dream debut, and the team is depressed

I hope your weekend was better than that of Sam Allardyce. His Everton team were humiliated by Arsenal. The young winger he froze out of the squad had a dream debut on loan in a league that Allardyce didn’t think he was ready for. And Big Sam’s preferred striker had another horrid start.

Allardyce is the man of Everton’s present. He’s done a fine job of keeping the team in the Premier League, which is exactly what he was meant to do. But he is not the man of the club’s future. He’s simply not capable of catapulting them to new heights.

Everton is in one competition. They have a number of exciting young talents, and a few new players that Sam would do well to throw into matches and see what their made of. Instead, he’s played it safe. Oumar Niasse is a known commodity. As is loanee Eliaquim Mangala. Who are there still questions about? Ademola Lookman, Davy Klaassen, Cenk Tosun, the health of Ramiro Funes Mori, and literally any left back in the entire organization. These are the lads that need the minutes and the time on the pitch in the Premier League.

Here’s hoping the weekend was a wake up call, although I think we already know that it wasn’t.
