All Gylfi Sigurdsson has been hoping for since he signed for Everton this summer has been a beast of a target in the box that can attack his crafty crosses and setpiece deliveries.

In Cenk Tosun, he might finally have that striker.

Speaking to evertontv, the playmaker reminisced about having gone up against his new teammate while on international duty, with Turkey and Iceland having played each other thrice in just the last couple of years or so.

“Every good player who comes to the Club is a positive and he is one of them,” said Everton’s record signing, who was on target in Friday’s 2-1 FA Cup loss to Liverpool.

“Hopefully he will play well for the Club. I have played against him a couple of times for Iceland, so I know he is a good player. Hopefully, he will settle in quickly and hit the ground running.”

Sigurdsson knows very well how the Blues have struggled to make an impression in the attacking half, with the Blues having only two goals to show in the last five games.

“If you look at recent games in the league we had been disappointing going forward. I thought we were much better (against Liverpool). In the second half we knew we had to get a goal, we were going for it and created a couple of chances. We could have got on the end of a couple of crosses after we scored.

“That is something we need to keep working on and keep improving – but if we keep playing like we did in the second half I think we will get some good results.”

One of those though was a top-drawer counter-attacking goal that had the Blues away section in raptures during the Merseyside Derby last weekend.

“Yes, it was nice to get the goal, especially in front of the fans to make it 1-1. But it doesn’t seem quite as sweet, especially the way we lost the game late on.

“But, hopefully, the goals will keep on coming and we will get some good results in the next few weeks. Christmas is always the busiest part of the season and we have had a lot of games in the past few weeks – tough games, as well.

“But we will have a couple of days to recover now and make sure we are ready for the next game.”

Can’t wait to see Tosun on the pitch this weekend!
