Everton unveil new kit ahead of Sevilla friendly

Everton have unveiled a special retro kit to mark the 125th anniversary of Goodison Park.

The new kit is part of a wider clothing range released to celebrate this important milestone in Everton’s history.

The Toffees will wear the kit, inspired by the strip worn by Dixie Dean in the 1920s, for Sunday’s final pre-season friendly against Sevilla.

Speaking about the new kit, fresh from signing his new contract, captain Phil Jagielka said:

“Goodison Park has been home to so many special memories for me and my family throughout my time here.

“It seems only fitting that to celebrate 125 years at Goodison the fans can purchase something exclusive and as a team we’re all looking forward to putting on the commemorative kit on Sunday to wear in front of all of you.”

The strip and associated merchandise is available to pre-order now and will be officially released on September 2 - the day Everton played their first football match at Goodison Park against Bolton in 1892.

Everton originally played their football at Anfield but after a disagreement with chairman and Anfield land owner John Houlding over rent the club moved across Stanley Park to Mere Green field - land that would go on to become Goodison Park.

Houlding, left with a football pitch but no team to play on it, subsequently went on to form Liverpool FC.

The rest, they say, is history.
