Everton have been involved in a couple of long-running transfer sagas this summer, with key among them being the Blues’ own Ross Barkley. The Wavertree-born Toffee has refused to sign a new deal and with his current contract expiring at the end of the upcoming season, where he will go next has been a matter of speculation for most of the year so far.

There have been all sorts of reports about outrageous wage demands from the Barkley camp as one by one every top six club but Liverpool has been mooted as a destination for the player who has yet to decide what position he plays best at.

If the bookmakers are to be believed though, former Reds boss Rafa Martinez Benitez and Newcastle are the latest club to enter the race for the 22-capped England international.

As reported by The Star today -

“A flurry of big bets on Ross Barkley joining Newcastle United from Everton caused Betfair to shorten their odds to 6/1”

Betfair are currently at 7 to 1, while William Hill have dropped their odds to 4 to 1, with PaddyPower at 15/2.

Tottenham Hotspur remain the favourites with all the bookies though to sign Barkley, with Chelsea and Arsenal also in the conversation.
