In what seems like an incredible incident, the father of Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic was shot by a member of a rival family, resulting in injuries to his hand and leg. As reported by Bosnian outlet Faktor, Meho Besic, 46, was hit with two bullets and was taken to a hospital in Srebrenica.

The disagreement stemmed from an earlier incident last week as the midfielder was supposed to attend an event in Falešici in Bosnia after Everton’s game in Split last Thursday against Hajduk.

However, Besic refused to go to the event since Bosnia manager Mehmed Baždarević did not call him up to the national side for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers next week and was angry at the decision.

Instead of attending however, Besic sent money to his father to buy food and drinks for the children attending the youth tournament. His father, who has had a colorful history including some jail time, then had a falling out with the Suljanovic family who are past associates of his. Following the disagreement, one of the members of the family shot him multiple times from behind, angering the elder Besic who then proceeded to exact his revenge using a baseball bat, per his account to Faktor.

Should Mo choose to go see his father who has now been released from hospital, Everton could be in a very tight spot for today’s game against Premier League defending champions Chelsea.

Morgan Scheniderlin is suspended for the game, while Davy Klaassen is out with a foot injury. Manager Ronald Koeman said that Idrissa Gueye would be a game time decision, which leaves Tom Davis and Besic as the only available midfielders for the Blues.
