In February, Royal Blue Mersey told you that discussions regarding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Everton may be revisited.

Sure enough - here we are.

Sky Sports are reporting today that no new contract discussions are planned between Arsenal and the Ox, which leaves the door wide open for his departure.

Liverpool are widely known to be interested, but have shown a lack of end product during the summer transfer window. Besides, Oxlade-Chamberlain is a better fit on the Blue side of the Mersey.

The English international is something of a positional tweener. He can play in central midfield, and he can play as a winger. Liverpool already have Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana, which would make Oxlade-Chamberlain simply redundant.

Ronald Koeman, on the other hand, has been continually interested in adding another midfielder to his squad, with the likes of Mario Lemina, Marcelo Brozovic, Andreas Samaris, and others all linked. The injury to Yannick Bolasie and departure of Gerard Deulofeu means that the Toffees need a wide man, too.

At only 23 years of age, the Ox has his best years all ahead of him. His versatility makes him a more interesting target than the other midfielders on the board. Oxlade-Chamberlain wants playing time, and Everton have it available.

His presence would mean that the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman don’t undertake too much, too soon, and ensure that the Blues can play multiple different systems if the need arises.

Make the call, Ronald.
