Former Premier League hitman to make his return with Everton?

With the expected departure of Romelu Lukaku finally complete, Everton can go about the business of finding their spearhead for next season. While Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez have already been locked up to contracts, neither is the solution for full-time striker and there have already been plenty of names thrown into the mix recently.

Until a couple of days ago, it was looking like Olivier Giroud was going to be that hitman, but he’s gone off Down Under with the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour, so that’s looking a bit unlikely for now.

Earlier today, former Everton media maven and highly respected source Alan Myers teased that the Blues were in contention for two forwards and one midfielder, with the Toffees harbouring strong interest in one of those players.

Also today, Bosnian radio station Radio Sarajevo linked former Manchester City and current AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko with the Blues, saying Everton have initiated contact for the forward.

Dzeko had a stellar campaign for the Romans last season, picking up the Serie A Golden Boot title with 29 League goals, and a further 10 in other competitions for a haul of 39 in 51 matches all season long.

Ronald Koeman is also said to be looking for some aerial prowess upfront with the current lack of height being a concern at duels in the opposition box.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international would link up with his countryman Muhamed Besic at the Blues, with 50 goals in 85 senior caps. Dzeko spent four years with Manchester City before going out on loan to Roma, and then seeing that converted into a permanent deal last season.

He will likely not come cheap for the Toffees considering he has three years to run on his contract, but the club is certainly flush with cash after Lukaku’s sale and could make the Italians an offer they cannot refuse.
